Both roles: as project manager to get the job done or hands on as a developer works for me. During the feasibility study I like to use tools like R/Shiny/RStudio and python for creating a proof of concept and generating useful scenarios as a proof of concept.
A thorough understanding of the math behind trading like options and the Greeks, and a long personal experience in live trading on different markets gives me a good understanding of the customers needs.
